On October 16–17, 2012 the IV International Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Forum REF Kyiv 2012 took place in Kiev. Yuri Bykoriz, First Deputy to CEO and Vice-president of Supply Chain at Carlsberg Ukraine spoke at the event, which is one of the key events in the area of sustainable energy in Ukraine.
During his speech, Mr. Bykoriz reported about practical experience of energy efficiency improvement on the basis of Carlsberg Ukraine production capacity. The company pays special attention to projects aimed at reducing the impact of production on the environment and energy efficiency improvement. Due to these programs during the period from 2009 to 2011 the company managed to reduce energy consumption by 8%, heat consumption — by 20% and water consumption — by 16%. It should be mentioned that today the water and energy consumption figures of Carlsberg Ukraine in general are the lowest in the industry.
Besides, due to introduction of biogas units, since 2009 Carlsberg Ukraine has managed to reduce its natural gas consumption significantly. In 2011 the utilization volume of biogas was 543 thousand cubic meters. Thus, the average annual replacement of natural gas by biogas at the Zaporizhzhya Brewery now is 10.6%, at the Kiev Brewery — 3.1%.
Traditionally, the International Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Forum gathered industry leaders, heads of industry departments, equipment developers and manufacturers, financiers and investors, international experts and representatives of the core associations for discussion of current issues in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency. In 2012, the Forum was held with the official support of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine.
Yuri Bykoriz, First Deputy to CEO and Vice-president of Supply Chain at Carlsberg Ukraine: “The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Forum provided an opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues and potential contractors in the field of improving energy efficiency of companies. This year, our company took part in the forum for the first time, presenting our projects in the field of sustainable development. Improving energy efficiency of production is one of the priority directions for Carlsberg today because by reducing the consumption of natural resources, we, accordingly, reduce our impact on the environment.”
